Student Organizations

Are you a student organization that wants to show a library film at an event? We might have some films with public performance rights (PPR) for you!

  • Public Performance Rights (PPR) – Many library films have PPR. Submit the student organization streaming media request form  to find out if a film has PPR.
  • Films without Public Performance Rights (PPR) – Many library films do not have PPR. These films cannot be used in extracurricular events. These films can only be used in the classroom setting.
    • SWANK films do not have PPR.
  • Requesting or verifying films with PPR -  It is best practice to submit the student organization streaming media request form to verify PPR and licensing dates for any film you may be considering for an event. This allows us to ensure your film has PPR and that it will not expire prior to your use (event) date.
    • In Kanopy, how do I request a film that is not readily available?  Student organizations can submit a request directly in Kanopy or by using our student organization streaming media request form.
      •  Films are approved based on several factors including available funding, cost, use, and availability in other formats.
    • Can I use any email to submit a film request? No, be sure to provide your UTRGV email so that we know you are affiliated with the university. Using another email may cause delays as we confirm your affiliation.
    • What film/event related information should I include and why? Including the information below in the initial request will avoid delays, help us demonstrate impact for students, as well as help us advocate for funding. This will help us prioritize and evaluate requests. To avoid delays or rejection of your request, please be thorough in your response.
      • Student Organization Name
      • Student Organization Member Submitting Request - Must be current student/faculty/staff
      • Use (Event) Date
      • Film Title
      • How will the film be used in the event
  • Allow time for processing and licensing of films. Submit requests early to allow sufficient time for checking, processing, and licensing of films.  Most films may be verified within 10 days but some may take longer as we may need to contact our streaming providers to verify PPR.
