DOCUSEEK

DOCUSEEK contains a selection of independent, social-issue and environmental streaming films covering a wide range of subjects including agriculture, communication, criminal justice, education, history, psychology, sociology, and more.

  • Coverage – DOCUSEEK is on request basis. The library will have access only to licensed films until license expires.
  • Requesting films Requesting films is restricted to faculty for use in courses.  Films are licensed for one year  but a three year license will be considered when it is the only option. Faculty will need to submit a renewal request if film will continue to be used to avoid a break in coverage.
    • How do I request a film?  Faculty use the streaming (film) media purchase/renewal request form to submit a title request. Submitting titles any other way or requests with missing information may cause delays.
      •  Films are approved based on several factors including available funding, cost, use, and availability in other formats.
    • Can I use any email to submit a film request? No, be sure to provide your UTRGV email so that we know you are affiliated with the university. Using another email may cause delays as we confirm you are affiliated with the university.
    • What course related information should I include and why? Including the information below in the initial request will avoid delays and help us demonstrate impact in student savings and ROI as well as help us advocate for funding. We ask that you include how the film will be used in the request. This will help us prioritize and evaluate requests. To avoid delays or rejection of your request, please be thorough in your response.
      • Instructor
      • Course name
      • Course section
      • How will the film be used in the course
      • # of students enrolled
  • Allow time for processing and licensing of films. Submit requests early to allow sufficient time for processing and licensing of films. Most films may take between 2 - 3 days to become active but some may take longer.
  • I requested a film and license is expiring. How to I submit a renewal for this title? Use our streaming (film) media purchase/renewal request form to submit your renewal request.
  • Public Performance Rights (PPR) – Contact John Asbell, Serials & Electronic Resources librarian, to find out if a film has PPR.
