APA Citation Guide: Citation Managers

Citation Generators

Citation Generators are online tools which create works cited and bibliographies. They allow you to enter in the fields for references, or a URL for a website, and create a reference for you. APA and MLA will always be an option. Here are some of popular generators:

Citation Managers

Citation managers are software tools that help you collect, organize, cite, and share references. They take your collection of PDFs, source citations, and other references and organize them into a personal library. UTRGV Supports three citation managers, RefWorks, EndNote, and Zotero.

RefWorks is a free cloud-based service through UTRGV. Only usable online. It is easier to use than EndNote, but slower. It has free document storage for PDFs and Microsoft Office files, with no storage limit. It has a MS Word integration function, but it tends to be buggy.

It can be accessed directly through https://refworks.proquest.com/

Create free account with UTRGV email & create password after receiving confirmation email.

EndNote is Software provided free by UTRGV. It works offline, but also has a cloud-based component. It is more advanced and has more features than RefWorks or Zotero, but harder to use. It has free document storage, without storage space limits. It has seamless Microsoft Word integration.

EndNote is available at no cost to UTRGV community. The institutional license is managed by UTRGV IT. It can be access through the "Help & Downloads" tab in my.utrgv.

Zotero is a free browser plug-in and downloadable software. It can be used online and offline. It has a limited amount of free cloud document storage, but it has monthly fees for additional software.

It is available at www.zotero.org/
