This is a collection of education resources that support UTRGV's mission to be a bilingual, bicultural, biliterate (B3) institution. The recommendations below highlight some of the resources available at the University Library, but this is by no means an exhaustive list. Center for Bilingual Studies – This interdisciplinary unit unites faculty from various colleges at UTRGV to collaborate on research that benefits bilingual families and communities. The Center for Bilingual Studies works with local schools to develop and implement action plans addressing bilingual education and bilingualism. The center strives to support the objective of turning UTRGV into a bilingual university.
Joy Esquierdo, Vice Provost for Bilingual Integration, UTRGV - In this TEDx talk, Dr. Joy Esquierdo advocates for a transformative approach to education—one that embraces bilingualism, biculturalism, and biliteracy as essential pillars of learning from early childhood through to career development. Dr. Esquierdo explores how education systems can be redefined to foster true belonging by recognizing and celebrating diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Office for Bilingual Integration – The Office of the Vice Provost for Bilingual Integration at UTRGV aims to establish the university as the premier bilingual Hispanic-serving Research Institution (HSRI) in the United States, setting the standard for a Bilingual HSRI Framework.

RGV TABE - Como organización de 28 años, la Asociación para la Educación Bilingüe del Valle del Río Grande - Texas ha brindado defensa, biculturalismo y alfabetización bilingüe para estudiantes y educadores bilingües en Region One. As a non-profit organization for 28 years, the Rio Grande Valley - Texas Association for Bilingual Education has provided advocacy, biculturalism, and biliteracy for bilingual students and educators throughout Region One.
Apertura (Guadalajara, Mexico) - Spanish language journal of technology in education. Apertura is a biannual publication of research and scientific dissemination specialized in educational innovation in virtual environments. It publishes original, unpublished and current research papers in Spanish, English and Portuguese, double-blind peer reviewed. The purpose of Apertura is to promote scientific communication and academic debate in the field of virtual, online, distance education and non-conventional education modalities involving educational technology; therefore, it is responsible for disseminating the results of research on education, narratives of argumentative experiences in educational innovation, as well as articles that encourage debate on topics in the field of education in virtual learning environments.
Bilingual Research Journal - This periodical is the National Association for Bilingual Education’s premier scholarly, peer-reviewed research publication. Bilingual Research Journal delivers in-depth coverage of education theory and practice, focusing on bilingual education, bilingualism, biliteracy, and language policies in education.
Hispania - This periodical is the official journal of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), invites the submission of original, unpublished manuscripts on applied linguistics, cultural studies, culture, film, language, linguistics, literary criticism, literature, and pedagogy.
International Journal of Bilingual Education and Bilingualism - The journal is multidisciplinary with a focus on the education of bilingual learners. They welcome foundational and applied research using qualitative or quantitative approaches and research from different disciplinary perspectives but especially linguistics, sociology and social policy, and psychology.
Journal of Language, Identity, and Education - This periodical is an international forum for original research on the intersections of language, identity, and education in global and local contexts. They are interested in interdisciplinary studies that examine how issues of language impact individual and community identities and intersect with educational practices and policies.
Language Learning Journal (LLJ) - The journal is an academic, peer-reviewed periodical, providing a forum for research and scholarly debate on current aspects of foreign and second language learning and teaching. Its international readership includes foreign and second language teachers and teacher educators, researchers in language education and language acquisition, and educational policy makers.
Perfiles Educativos - La revista Perfiles Educativos es una publicación especializada en el campo de la investigación educativa. Su finalidad es fomentar el intercambio y el debate académico en el campo de la educación en el ámbito iberoamericano. Se encuentra abierta a todos los desarrollos de las ciencias de la educación, impulsando la difusión de trabajos originales, resultantes de procesos rigurosos de indagación. Está dirigida a investigadores, especialistas, profesores y estudiantes de grado y posgrado relacionados con el campo educativo. Perfiles Educativos publica cuatro números al año con los resultados más recientes de la investigación educativa.

Caribbean Studies - The periodical is a peer-reviewed multidisciplinary journal published since 1961 by the Institute of Caribbean Studies, College of Social Sciences, University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. The journal publishes twice a year original works on the Social Sciences and the Humanities in English, Spanish and French languages.
Educational Policy Analysis Archives - This is a peer-reviewed, open-access, international, multilingual, and multidisciplinary journal designed for researchers, practitioners, policy makers, and development analysts concerned with education policies.
International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education - This journal facilitates the dissemination of critical scholarly works and exchange of information from a variety of cultural perspectives for researchers, professionals and practitioners in the technology enhanced and digital learning fields in higher education.

The "Así se Dice - That's How You Say It" video presents a strategy for bilingual students in that promotes collaborative work in both Spanish and English. This video focuses on techniques for fostering language development across both languages while encouraging students to work together.
The video "Biliteracy in Action: Kindergarten" by Beeman and Urow provides an insightful look into how kindergarten classrooms can effectively integrate both languages to promote biliteracy among young learners. In this video, the focus is on how teachers can support the development of reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in two languages simultaneously.
The key takeaway from the video is the importance of creating an environment where students are encouraged to use both languages in meaningful, authentic contexts.
In this video, they use concept attainment, TPR, and partner share in Spanish to learn about the rock cycle, and to develop Spanish language arts. The unit continues with the reading and writing portion (5 to 10 more days) before doing the Bridge. This video includes an example of what the Bridge could look like as part of this unit; however, in this video, it was done the same day as the oracy building because it was a model lesson.
